Starting a CubeLife uprising

Friday, December 11th, 2009

Michelle Judd, Global Communications Manager @ Ergotron

Working fitLike a scene in Caddy Shack, heads are beginning to pop up above the Ergotron cube walls like gophers on the golf course. Employees are beginning to integrate our latest innovation, the WorkFit C-Mod workstation, into their cubes.

It has spurred some interesting discussions. Chuck in finance has been sitting for 30 years in his career. Marge in operations has been sitting since 1974. Do the math. I’ve been sitting 22 years. And you?

We’re calling it a “cubelife uprising” and rightly so. Whether it is 20 years or 20 months, being chained to the chair makes for some great lyrics in a blues song, but may not do much for our overall well being.

So what IS all the buzz about regarding height-adjustable computing?

Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ, in ‘gadget’ episode, gadget 131 – Sit, Stand, Work…with the Ergotron WorkFit!, will show you. He does an amazing job, and even addresses a few of his cons about the product. Take a look:

Workers unite? Maybe not. But what could it look like to build the perfect compensation package for your job? Let’s see. Four weeks vacation, stock options, and oh yeah, maybe a WorkFit?

I’m just saying.

Thanks, Fr. Robert! Another informative review.

Neo-Flex LCD Arm: Tough enough to hold touch screen monitors for use

Monday, July 27th, 2009

NF LCD ARMThanks to Daniel Duncan for his recent review of the Neo-Flex™ LCD Arm on Associatedcontent.com.  Daniel has a unique view of the arm. He works and writes mostly from his bed and needed a monitor that would be both accessible and comfortable to use.

He gives a thorough description of the range of motion and features. Daniel has mounted the arm to a shelf with a rubber coated clamp so the desktop will not get scratched and it does not slip.

This is a good reminder that these arms can transform just about any area into a more comfortable and productive workspace.

Daniel says, “I wanted to do The Ergotron 45-174-300 Neo-Flex Desk Monitor Mount Review because it has been such a saver for me.”

We’re glad to hear it.

More importantly, my eyes are happy

Christina Tynan-Wood, in her post, Making My Desk Bigger, on www.geekgirlfriends.com, continues in her quest of “hording gadgets” for her new home office. This week she tackled fetching a monitor arm to make her desk truly ergonomic.

Christina brings up a good point about the desk arm, “The copy on the Ergotron LX Desk Mount Arm monitor said that I would be able to clamp the arm to my desk…. But my desk didn’t have a wide enough lip to allow that.” Fortunately the kit gave her a workable and satisfactory alternative option.

Husband or no husband, you’ll find what you need to know about how to install it from the TigerDirect.com review of the arm which Christina includes in her post.

You’ll be especially glad to hear, “But, more importantly, my eyes are happy. When I hit a web site with print that is too small to see, I pull the screen closer.”

This is timely. We’ve more information to come about some fun eye exercises to help reduce strain so be sure to check back soon.

Put your screens where you want them

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

I want to give a shout out to Fr. Robert Ballecer, SJ, on his ‘gadget’ episode, gadget 116 – Ergotron LX Dual LCD Arm, and to Notebook Reviews for their coverage of it.

Fr. Ballecer and his team put Ergotron’s LX Dual Side-by-Side Arm through its paces, testing several types of monitors in several different settings. And although he admits he kind of breaks the rules (monitors a little heavier than spec), he shows everything you would ever want to know about the arm.

Now all you need to decide is where you want them.

People are talking…

There has been a flurry of product reviews coming in, from around the Web, like the tail end of an Alberta Clipper. Much more welcome than the snow:

Peter Knoshak’s Library Technology Blog: The Ergotrons – A Mobile Workstation Solutions chronicles how a visit to the hospital bridged the gap for him about mobile technology. “I quickly noticed how hospitals are using mobile technology to work more efficiently. Instead of taking me to a station…that station was brought to me.” He came to see that mobile cart solutions could potentially streamline processes in the library. Read about it.

An Ergotron arm that is not unlike “Frenzy” from a Michael Bay/Paramount film? Kevin O’Brien in his Ergotron LX Dual Arm Desk Mount Review on Notebooks-Guide.com, gives a very thorough review of the arm, including the pros and cons. He concludes, “Overall the quality of the stand was top notch, which you would expect of something designed for a business environment.”

The Dirty Shirt blog, which showcases “product reviews from a mom with way too much laundry,” recently reviewed the Neo-Flex Combo Lift Stand. Take a look.

Lastly, want to give a shout out to Chad Johnson, MyTechOpinion.com, in his post, Pimp Your Screens. He takes the multi-monitor “tools you can use” one step further reminding folks that dual monitors space issues are easily resolved with the addition of a multi-monitor stand.

Cramped for space?

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Michelle Judd, Global Communications Manager @ Ergotron

Michael Kwan has an interesting post, Stuffing a Home Office into Cramped Quarters, out on Furturelooks.com that you might be interested in reading. He covers the gamut from KVM Switches (Huh? Ah Keyboard, Video, Mouse switches, got it) to display desk stands, including our Neo™-Flex Combo Lift Stand

Among his good points about laptop considerations, he has this to say about the stand, “The base has 360-degree pan rotation as well, so you can show that funny YouTube video to your buddy with a quick spin of the base. Dramatic gopher would be proud.”

So, this begs the question, have you gone dual yet?

Cramped quarters or not, in Michael words, “They say once you go dual display, you really can’t go back.” As I happen to be one of the converts, I feel comfortable inviting you over to the “other side” of laptop computing. Come on, I dare ya!
